Lutalo Muhammad is recognised as the most successful male British taekwondo athlete in history. Born and raised a few miles from London’s Olympic stadium, Lutalo began practising taekwondo at the age of three with his father Wayne, who has more than four decades of experience in martial arts.
In the summer of 2011 Lutalo joined the GB Academy and went on to make his Olympic bow at the 2012 London Olympics winning the bronze medal in the sub-80kg class. Four years later at Rio he went one better, winning the silver medal in the same class. Throughout his storied career, Lutalo has had success beyond the Olympics as well, winning a gold medal at the 2012 European Championships and a bronze at the 2014 edition of the event.
Lutalo announced his retirement from taekwondo in September 2022. He has since appeared on-screen, including featuring in a series for the National Lottery to showcase how the lottery’s funding benefits diverse projects in local communities across the country and acting as media representative for Eurosport at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
